Disney is having what looks to be the most successful year for the studio. No signs of slowing down after rumors of a live action The Little Mermaid have surfaced.
A report on Deadline, suggests that Disney are in early discussions to bring the beloved Little Mermaid franchise back to life, almost 30 years after the original animated film.
Disney execs have reportedly begun contacting producers, to help the project move forward. With previous success of IPs turning from animated to live-action, like Maleficent, Cinderella and the recently released The Jungle Book (that generated a whopping $860 worldwide so far), there should not be too much opposition on The Little Mermaid. Both Maleficent and The Jungle Book have been green lit and will see sequels in the near future.
This news come just days after the release of another live-action teaser for another Disney property. The teaser for Beauty and The Beast is one of the most viewed teasers in YouTube history, and the movie is set to release in 2017, starring Emma Watson, Ewan McGregor and Luke Evans.
