A major complaint among Pokemon GO players is that there is a lack of Pokemon GO PokeStops and Gyms in suburbs and rural areas.
The game uses Portal locations from Ingress, another game developed by Niantic Labs. This means that areas that didn’t have active Ingress players were underrepresented when Pokemon GO launched.
To alleviate the issue, Niantic Labs issued a new system that enables players to request PokeStops and Gyms be added to certain locations. To do so, you need to go to Pokemon GO’s support page and fill a ticket with your request of landmark, or location. Using Google Maps to search for longitude and latitude can help with the request.
Consequently, the same form can be used to request to remove PokeStops. For example, if a business owner deems a PokeStop harmful to their business, they can ask for its removal from the game. These requests are probably going to be dealt with more quickly. Just be sure to have proof of ownership of the property.
Niantic Labs are currently not accepting new submissions for PokeStops or Gyms – see image below.
