An April Fools video called Pokemon Challenge, from Google, may have had a lot to do with Pokemon GO’s rise to prominence in recent weeks.
There was an actual mini game on Google Maps that involved catching Pokemon, though it was not nearly as comprehensive as Pokemon GO. Considering that the developer, Niantic Labs, use Goggle’s technology in their game, it’s safe to say that Google’s Pokemon Challenge video was not entirely a joke after all.
This isn’t the first time an April Fools joke becomes reality. Just a few weeks ago at E3, a gadget called Smartboy (turns ordinary smartphones into Game Boys), that started as an April Fool’s joke last year, became a reality as it was funded and introduced to the public.
