Despite its bad reception by critics and fans alike, Suicide Squad managed to hold on to top spot at the domestic box office. Sausage party comes in at second spot, with a very strong opening weekend.
The David Ayer-directed Suicide Squad added $43.8 million, a 67% drop from last weekend (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice dropped 69% its second weekend), to take its North American total to $222.9 million. Internationally, the comic book adaptation earned $58.7 million this weekend for a total of $242.5 million overseas. Made for $175 million, the film has now earned $465.4 million worldwide.
Suicide Squad is currently with a 27% Tomatometer rating and 6.9 on IMDb.
The movie tells the story of a secret government agency run by Amanda Waller, named A.R.G.U.S, who creates a task force comprising super villains, the “Suicide Squad”. They are assigned to execute dangerous tasks in exchange for shorter prison sentences.
The film stars Oscar nominee Will Smith (Ali, The Pursuit of Happyness), Oscar winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club), Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus), Joel Kinnaman (Netflix’s “House of Cards”) and Oscar nominee Viola Davis (The Help, Doubt).
