According to the director, his ideas for the next four Avatar films left people “speechless”. We guess we’ll have to see it to believe it.
At the beginning there were two. Then three. Then FOUR! The idea of expanding on the story of the original CGI game-changer must have gotten the director very, very excited indeed, if he sees reason in making another four of these.
“So far, what I am seeing in pure imagination is far beyond the first film,” he said. “We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic project, making four epic films, each of which stands alone but together forms a complete saga.”
Truth is, we can’t recall many who ever asked for a sequel to begin with, let alone four. But it does sound reasonable to followup on the worlds highest grossing film ever.
In further support of the first-run theatrical experience, Cameron added of the “Avatar” sequels:
“Trust me, these are films that were designed to be seen in theaters and on the big screen first.”
The first sequel is slated for Christmas releases in 2018, with the latter coming in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
