Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), Oscar winner for her part in The Danish Girl, is going to star as the next Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider re-boot.
Daisy Ridley (Star Wars) was rumored to get the part, but according to Variety, it will be Alicia Vikander who fills the explorer boots of former Tomb Raider star, Angelina Jolie.
The famous archaeologist featured in movies in 2001 and 2003, with her latest major appearances in the video games Tomb Raider (Also a re-boot, 2013), and Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015). In the video games, Lara is voiced by Cammila Luddington, who rumors also claimed at some point might get the role in the film.
MGM is the studio behind the project, and The film is being produced by Graham King and directed by Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug.
