Jon Snow’s Sister From Another Mister

After Sunday’s episode, Oathbreaker, many longstanding theories came to the forefront of Game of Thrones’ plot.

[MAJOR SPOILERS] ahead! Do not read if spoilers are not your cup of coffee, or you have not watched the first three episodes of season 6 of Game of Thrones. Rhaegar and Lyanna will answer some questions for us.

Howland Reed. What do we know about him really, aside from him being Eddard Stark’s friend? In Oathbreaker, we witness the two men fight House Targaryen’s last Bannermen, winning on points, when Howland Reed stabs Arthur Dayne, The Sword of the Morning, in the back. Just moments later we are in for one of the biggest reveals of the series. But then the Three Eyed Raven “ruins” it for us by slinging Bran back from his Warg state. Rhaegar and Lyanna hold the key to many of fan theories. Let’s discuss a few of them.

If you are not yet familiar with the theory of R+L=J, we’re here to explain.

Many believe, that despite Jon Snow being portrayed as the bastard son of Ned and some unknown woman, from his time fighting along side Robert Baratheon, he is actually not Ned’s child at all. We know Ned’s and Robert’s bond was strong, so it makes sense that Ned would cover for the king, when it came to information that could taint the crown. Even more so, Ned was adamant in protecting his sister Lyanna and her children. This brings us to the idea that Jon is the product of R (Rhaegar) + L (Lyanna) = J (Jon). In other words, the son of The Mad King (King Aerys II), Rhaegar – a Targaryen, impregnated Lyanna Stark, and Jon Snow is their lovechild. Being born a bastard in Dorne (The Tower of Joy), Jon’s Surname should not have been Snow, but Sand (like Ellaria Sand), but that’s another story.

The¬†theory has been running in the WebSphere for ages. However, this is where it gets interesting. You may have wondered what Meera Reed‘s role is in Game of Thrones after her younger Warg brother, Jojen, dies in Season 4 when they help Bran reach the Three Eyed Raven. Why would the writers keep her alive? If the following theory is to be believed, it is because she is the twin sister of no other than Jon Snow.

How do you ask? Well, like in Star Wars, twins were born – a boy and a girl. Each were taken to different families to be raised far apart. The idea, was to not allow King Robert to know about possible Targaryen heirs to the throne. Ned knew Robert would not be forgiving. In season one, they have a conversation about whether or not to pursue Daenerys and murder her, before she comes back to haunt King Robert. Ned manages to talk his friend out of it.

So, we have Ned taking Jon under his wing, and Howland Reed taking Meera. Notice how all of a sudden they actually look alike as well?

Brother and sister? – Jon and Meera / HBO

So, Meera is not Jon’s sister from another mister, but his twin from the same two parents. Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.

However, there is another closely related theory we discuss.

Do you think this theory will become a reality? Share your thoughts in the comments.
