Possible Spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 6 ahead. Sunday’s episode, Battle of The Bastards could be HBO’s most expensive affair yet.
HBO veteran Miquel Sapochnik, who directs Battle of The Bastards, and also helmed last season’s Hardhome, gave his thoughts in an interview with EW.
“Every battle on Thrones is unique. I think that’s why [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] keep doing them. In the case of ‘Battle of the Bastards’ — or ‘BOB’ as we affectionately called it in production — David and Dan wanted to do a thing of spectacle, a strategic pitch-field battle they hadn’t had the resources to do back in season one or two. I was particularly interested in depicting both the horror of war and the roll of luck in battle.”
The numbers in the following slides, should give an idea of how many resources, manpower and energy, went into the production of the episode. With over $10 million spent over a course of a 25 day shoot, they are staggering –
Battle of The Bastards airs Sunday, June 19, at 9 PM E.T. on HBO.
