Star Wars story movies (like Rogue One) were viewed as spin-offs and considered one time projects for each of the chosen characters. Now, multiple Han Solo movies are on the table.
It doesn’t really come as a surprise that Disney and Lucasfilm are already considering more than one Han Solo movie, according to New York Daily News.
The report claims that Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!), who has been picked to portray Solo, signed a three picture deal with the studios, with a source saying –
“There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential. Given that Han’s early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters.”
Screenplay for the Han Solo movie comes from Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, and will tell the story of how Solo became the well known smuggler we all know from the original Star Wars trilogy.
Chewbacca has also been confirmed as a character that will feature in Han’s films.
Directing the film will be the duo of Chris Miller and Phil Lord (The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street). Executive producers are Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin, with production set to begin January 2017.
