In a world where nothing seems impossible, fans of DC’s cinematic universe have formed a petition that calls to shut down popular movie review site Rotten Tomatoes.
The reason for the petition, is that DC films have not exactly been well received on Rotten Tomatoes. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice scored just 27%, while soon-to-be-released Suicide Squad already stands at a measly 34%, as of writing.
Fans were so furious with the ratings on the site that they decided to launch a petition on change.org. The petition’s description goes like this –
We need this site to be shut down because It’s Critics always give The DC Extended Universe movies unjust Bad Reviews, Like
1- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 2016.
2- Suicide Squad 2016 and that Affects people’s opinion even if it’s a really great movies.
A quick run-through of the comments will show people who are in agreement, that the site does have bias towards DC’s franchise movies. Thing is, it looks like these people don’t understand how Rotten Tomatoes’ ratings work.
The site aggregates reviews from different publications all over the web, and only then gives us an average of all the critics’ reviews. For that reason, there is also a fan rating on the site, much like IMDB’s system, where users can rate the movies, and this is aggregated towards a separate score.
Hating a site just for informing you on critics ratings, to the point where you’re actually petitioning to shut it down? A little too much in our opinion.
What do you think? Is there anything in this petition, or do you just find it ridiculous?
